A canadian in Los Angeles

«When I was younger I did the classic backpack tour around Europe, trying to see as many cities as I could in just two weeks. It was a race against time, but the memories it left me are still really exceptional. It’s a shame to grow up and lose that happygo-lucky feeling». At 38, Ryan Reynolds has reached a level of fame thnsi’s raehdosn’t gerconisd evrywh he goes. Canadian born (Vancouver), now based in Los Angeles, his successes to date include films like “The Proposal” and “Green Lantern”, and his latest film,
“Woman in Gold” has just been released in the United States. It’s the (true) story of Maria Altmann, an Austrian Jew who fled Nazi Germany in 1938 to take refuge in the United States, and in the ‘nineties began a legal battle against the Belvedere Museum in Vienna for the return of a celebrated painting by Klee stolen from her family during the Nazi occupation. «I play her lawyer in the film, a man willing to sacrifice private life and career in the name of a legal dispute he felt was full of moral value ». Do you recognise yourself in the character? «Yes, even though I’ve never been faced with that kind of decision». Now you have a six month old son (with actress Blake Lively - ed) do you find it harder when you have to leave home to make a film? «I’ve certainly got more scruples about it». What are the most cinematographic places you’ve ever been to? «Barcelona, Vienna and Los Angeles. Just the kind of skies they have automatically transforms everything under them into something scenographic». A place you’d like to make film in the future? «Tibet». If you were to backpack around Europe again, how would you organise it? «With more calm, ybetaking few plansher dt.I’m nota kid anymore!»
